RECORDS FROM WICOMICO PARISH

Deed from Clement Arledge and Mary Arledge, his wife, (formerly wife of John Donaldson),
for part of 300 acre plantation in Northumberland County, Virginia; dated 17 July 1702.

Birth records from Wicomico Parish, Northumberland County, Virginia, for children of
Clement Aldridge. The page is torn, and only the last letters of their first names,
and the first letters of the birth months, have survived:  ... ent (Son), Borne Sep;
... d (Daughter), borne Mar; ... ce (Daughter), borne Oct; ... m (Son), borne Feb;
... aac (Son), borne S; and ... hn (Son), borne Feb.

Birth record from Wicomico Parish, Northumberland County, Virginia, reading, in part:
"Sone Wm. Aldridge was born May 16 170" Neither the name nor the year is legible.

Last Will and Testament of William Arledge, Northumberland County, Virginia, dated
21 January 1725. Named in the will are his wife Sarah Arledge (as Executrix), his
daughter Jane, and his sons William, John, Clement, and Isaac. These names match
perfectly the four sons of Clement Aldridge named in the fragmentary birth records
shown above. This is powerful evidence that the names of “Aldridge” and “Arledge”
were interchangeable, and that this William Arledge (Aldridge) was in fact the son
of Clement Arledge (Aldridge). Also, the will names William Fallin as guardian of
William Arledge, and Charles Fallin as guardian of John Arledge. William and Charles
Fallin were brothers of Alice Fallin, first wife of William Arledge (Aldridge).

None of this proves that this John Aldridge or Arledge, son of William, grandson of
Clement, was the John Alridge who married Annie Hamilton in Overwharton Parish,
Stafford County, Virginia, on 11 June 1728 or 11 June 1738.
