Deed from Thomas Asbury to James Hambleton Sr., dated 21 July 1725, for 100 acres of
land on the branches of Appomattox (Mattox) Creek in Westmoreland County, Virginia.
The purchase price was 3500 pounds of tobacco. This 100 acres was part of a 1200
acre patent granted to Colonel Nicholas Spencer on 22 September 1668, who assigned
it to John Washington (great-grandfather of George Washington) on 9 October 1668.
James Hambleton’s southwestern corner was on the patent line, 2310 feet east of the
southwestern corner of the original 1200-acre patent.
