NOW AND THEN

My love, I cannot stay here long.
This place is not my home.
My love for you will still be strong
No matter where I roam.
I wish that you could come with me
Or I could stay with you.
I know it is not meant to be,
No matter what I do.

I cannot bear the thought
Of never seeing you again.
If I cannot be your lover
I would like to be your friend,
For you have touched me in a way
That no one has before.
I hope we meet again some day;
I ask for nothing more.

I know that you can never be
What I could be to you.
I know that you are not as free
As I once thought was true.
I know that I will look for you
When I pass through again,
And maybe if your heart is true
You’ll love me now and then.
