The only other deed in the name of Stephen Phillips is his sale of 236.5
acres to Josiah Bowdown (Bowdoin) on 8 August 1851, described as follows:
“... on the waters of Brush Creek Containing two hundred acres &
thirty six & a half ... Beginning at a post oak and running North
Thirty three Chains and thirty two & a half links to a post oak,
thence West two chains and seventy five links to a Spanish oak,
thence South twelve Chains and fifty links to a black Jack Wm
Barkers corner, thence north two degrees west forty chains to a
haw bush, Thence south nine chains & fifty links to a hickory Wm
Barkers corner, thence South forty four degrees west Four chains &
thirty five links to a black Jack Wm Barkers corner, thence north
Eighty two degrees west Three chains & fifty links to a black Jack,
thence south thirty seven degrees west forty three chains & seventy
five links to a black Jack on the original line, thence east on
said line Sixty two chains & fifty links to the Beginning.”
The lands described in these three deeds are for three different parcels of
land. Family gravesites might be found on any of them.

15 February 1864, Morgan County, Indiana. Lived 1850, 1860, 1870, 1880,
Clay Township, Morgan County, Indiana. Died 6 December 1898, Morgan County,
Indiana. Children: Rachel E., Arminta, James A., Jeptha S., Mary E.,
Perry Oliver, John C. Fremont, William E., Laura A., and Isaac N.
Martha Ann Phillips. Born November 1824. Married John Henry, 4 July 1846,
Randolph County, North Carolina. Living 1850, Chatham County, North
