ANCESTRY OF LOUIS LEE SHARROCK

Thomas Ayres” and “James Wilson,” in brackets, with the notation: “no Leagle
Plan of Settlement.” In this household are three men aged 20 to 30, one man
aged 30 to 40, one woman aged 20 to 30, and one woman aged 15 to 20.

Census records reveal that in 1840 a branch of the Sharrock family was
already living in Egg Harbor Township, Atlantic County, New Jersey. The
father’s name was John Sharrick (aged 30 to 39), living with a wife (age
20 to 29), two girls (one aged 5 to 9, one under 5), and a boy (under 5).
These children would be Phebe, Eliza Ann, and Larner (see below).

The family appears again in the 1850 census, which lists the names, ages,
and birth places of all the family members. The father, John M. Sharrick,
a carpenter, was born in New York State (possibly at Peekskill), about
1810, as he was 40 years old at the time of the census. The rest of the
family was born in New Jersey. His wife’s name was Ann, born about 1819.
They had at least eight children, including at least four sons who could
have passed on the family name: Larner J. (born c. 1838), William (born
c. 1842), John T. (born c. 1846), and George F. (born c. 1850). The
daughters were named Phebe S. (born c. 1833), Eliza Ann (born c. 1836),
Eveline (born c. 1840), and Cordelia (born c. 1844).

inconsistent with the 1850 census. Phebe and Eliza Ann are gone, possibly
married. Larner is listed as Lardun. John T. is listed as J. Taylor.
George F. is listed as Francis. Eveline (or Evaline) has married Samuel
Cain, a sailor, and both are living in the Sharrick household.
