SO LITTLE TIME WE HAVE

So little time we have,
These days and months and years,
To love and laugh, to live and learn
Of joy and certain tears.

Each and every hour spent
Will be cause for sad lament
If we simply let it go.
Time is not so very slow.
When our age begins to show,
We’ll all wonder where it went,
Each and every hour spent.

So little time we have.
The leaves turn paler shades,
And August days are coming chilled
As summer fades away.

Each and every word I said,
I hated youth with bitter breath.
I wished I were already grown,
Making choices on my own.
Now with independence known,
I look back with sad regret
On each and every word I said.

So little time we have.
Our youth will pass, and then
Our little days and months and years
Will never come again.
