Children of John Allred:
John Allred (Born c. 1761, Died c. 1836). Married Hannah. Dr. Rulon C.
Allred states that his will was dated 1836. The 1790 census for Randolph
County lists John Alred Snr. (see below), John Alred of William, John
Aldridge, and two men named John Alred. The 1800 census lists four men named
John Allred, one aged 45+ and three aged 26-44. I cannot tell them apart.
Elizabeth Allred (Born c. 1763). Married William Horner. It is said by the
Horner family, and accepted by the Allred family that: (1) William was born
30 October 1746 in York County, Pennsylvania, and moved with his family to
Frederick County, Virginia in 1748; that (2) Elizabeth died 11 March 1823,
William died 12 October 1824, and both are buried at Bent Creek Church
Cemetery, Whitesburg, Hamblen County, Tennessee. But the census records for
1800, 1810 and 1820 are lost, and the only William Horner in the 1790 census
is in Harford County, Maryland, which makes it difficult to verify when they
lived in Tennessee; and that (3) Elizabeth was born 17 August 1747. But the
photograph of her gravestone that has been posted online is completely
illegible. Moreover, her father John appears as a single man in the 1755
tax list for Orange County (from which Randolph County was created in 1779).
Thus, Elizabeth’s birth date is not verified, and almost certainly was no
earlier than 1756. The best available clues are the marriage records for
Elizabeth’s children. According to the Horner family, there were fourteen
children. (ref. http://eturner.com/Horner) Marriage records were found for
nine, all in Jefferson County, Tennessee, unless otherwise noted.
Catherine Horner married Thomas Green on 4 June 1801 (#392).
Susannah Horner married John Coltharp III on 18 September 1802 (#405).
Esther Horner married Lewis Russell on 21 October 1802 (#432).
Polly Horner married Thomas Crosby on 6 August 1803 (#476).
Lavina Horner married Eli Strange Coltharp on 7 April 1808 (#812).
Cavalier Horner married Jane Crosby on 5 January 1809 in Greene County,
Tennessee (#1323).
Isaac Horner married Polly Johnson on 6 February 1816 (#1239).
Thomas Horner married Catherine Hilton on 15 October 1817 (#1322), and
Sally Laudurback on 12 June 1832 in Hawkins County, Tennessee.
Elizabeth Horner married James Johnson on 4 January 1820 (#1516).
Marriage records were not found for Miriam Horner (married Caleb Witt), John
Horner (married Elizabeth Russell), George Horner (married Jemima Russell),
William Horner Jr. (married Mary Elizabeth Haun), or Ann Horner (who never
married). Miriam, John, George and William are the first children listed on
the Horner family website; they may have been the oldest, and may have been
the first ones married. But the earliest recorded marriages of the children
were in 1801, 1802, 1802 and 1803, which suggests that a birth date of 1747
for their mother is too early. A better photograph or a personal examination
of Elizabeth Horner’s gravestone may resolve the question of her birth date.
