ANCESTRY OF DELILAH ALLRED

York is listed in the 1810 census for Randolph County, but at present the
record cannot be retrieved. The 1820 census records for Randolph County are
lost. Barbara Allred was born between 1755 and 1774. Her oldest son was
born no later than 1784, which suggests an earlier birth date than 1769.

Joseph Allred (Born 15 September 1772, Died 27 February 1856). Married
Rachael Allred (born c. 1773, died 3 March 1856, possibly his second wife,
see above). Joseph and Rachael are buried at Patterson Grove Cemetery,
Randolph County, North Carolina. The dates are known with certainty from
their original marble gravestones.

Sarah Allred (Born c. 1773). Named in will. No other records were found.

Jonathan Allred (Born 8 March 1774, Died 14 March 1826). Married Nancy Lewis
(Born June 1773, Died 28 October 1845). Their birth and death dates are
known with certainty, being carved in slate on their original gravestones at
Patterson Grove Cemetery, Randolph County, North Carolina. Nancy Allred’s
gravestone, directly beside that of Jonathan Allred, identifies her as
“N A D C” (Nancy Allred, Deceased).

Mary Allred (Born c. 1777). Named in will. No other records were found.

Lydia (Liddy) Allred (Born c. 1779) Randolph County court documents
commencing 6 November 1786, posted by the Allred family, report that Lidia
Allred was raped by Stephen Lewis on 30 October 1786. The documents are
reproduced with such poor resolution that one must rely upon Allred family
transcriptions. The Allred family states that Lidia was born in Orange
County, North Carolina in 1770, but provides no documentation. Family
tradition holds that Lydia became a recluse, and after her father died she
lived with her sister Barbara Allred (wife of William York, see above).

Rebecca Allred (Born c. 1781). Named in will. No other records were found.

Margaret Allred (Born c. 1783). Named in will. No other records were found.

The Last Will and Testament of John Allred, the father of these twelve
children, was dated 15 September 1792 and probated December 1792. He is
listed in the 1790 census for Randolph County, North Carolina as “John Alred
Snr.” living with two men under 16 and five women (probably his sons Joseph
and Jonathan, and his daughters Sarah, Mary, Rebecca and Margaret). If the
fifth woman was his daughter Lydia, as family tradition holds, then the
Margret Alred who appears in the 1790 census for Randolph County was John’s
estranged wife, which would explain why she was not named in his will.

In summary, while the birth dates estimated by Dr. Rulon C. Allred for the
twelve children of John Allred are sometimes later than available records
indicate, there is no proof that any of his children were born before 1755.
The only evidence for an earlier birth is said to be the gravestone of
Elizabeth Horner, and its inscription is in need of verification.

The four “original” Allreds, who first appear in the land records of North
Carolina in the 1750s, were John, Thomas, William, and Solomon. The only
other wills from Allreds of this generation are those of Thomas Allred, dated
8 November 1809, and William Allred, dated 14 October 1822. Thomas Allred
