LOST AT LOVE AGAIN

I remember when we fell in love.
We thought our love would last,
Even though we’d both had many
Failures in the past.
We began by holding hands;
In the end we chained our souls,
For fear of being lonely,
For fear of growing old.

I devote myself to you,
You devote yourself to me.
In such a simple contract
There is no security.
In our quest for love
We gave up too much of ourselves,
And you cannot love another
If you do not love yourself.

So now I’ve lost at love again,
I must accept defeat.
I made a set of promises
I found I could not keep.
I’m sorry it turned out this way.
I know we both feel spurned.
I’m not ashamed for having tried.
With each goodbye you learn.
