A REFUGE FOR POETS WHO WRITE IN THE LYRIC TRADITION,
WITH RHYME AND METER, WITH OR WITHOUT MUSIC

LOVE HAS GONE AND LEFT YOU
Love has gone and left you feeling slighted.
How sad it is when love is unrequited.
To give your heart for nothing in return,
Except, perhaps, a bitter lesson learned.
Oh, I have been there too; I know the pain
Of empty, broken promises, of dreaming done in vain,
Of wondering whatever did I do.
But nothing anybody does is on account of you.
People have their problems and project them onto you.
People have their secrets and they keep them all from you.
People can be arrogant and looking down on you.
People can be insecure and run away from you.
Life is so unfair and so unkind.
A gentle, loving man is hard to find.
So show your love in everything you do,
And know him when he stands in front of you.
Never lose your faith; your time will come.
There are so many men; you need but one.
And he will grace your life and lift your heart,
And when he does, I hope you never part.
