ANCESTRY OF LOUIS LEE SHARROCK

living in 1880 with his grandparents, David Lee and Mary E. Lee. The
census records also reveal that Naomi Lee had a brother named Lewis Lee,
who was a sailor, like his Uncle William before him. Lewis Lee Sharrock,
born 30 April 1893, my grandfather, was named after him.

The eight persons listed above are the only ones named Sharrock, by any
spelling, who appear in the 1880 census records for Atlantic County, New
Jersey; and elsewhere in the state, as in 1870, the only ones by any other
spelling are the Shorrock families in Paterson, Passaic, New Jersey.

The 1890 census records burned in a fire. In the 1900 census, Taylor
Sharrock, son of Naomie, and William Sharrock, son of Mary, both appear
in Egg Harbor Township. Both William and Taylor are identified as house
carpenters. Taylor Sharrock, now 24 years old, is still living with
Mary Lee, his grandmother, now 80, and Ellen (Ella) Lee, his aunt, now 42.
William Sharrock, now 23, has a wife of 19, named Hannah J. Sharrock; they
had been married two years, with no children.

Presumably Hannah J. Sharrock died young. In the 1910 census, William J.
Sharrock, now 33, has a wife of 33 named Leah F. Sharrock; they had been
married two years, and had a four-year-old daughter named Alva. Also in the
1910 census, David L. Sharrock, son of Naomie Lee Sharrock, now 35, a house
painter, appears in Atlantic City with a wife named Etta Sharrock, also 35.
They had been married 18 years, and had two sons: Lee Sharrock, aged 17, a
sign writer’s apprentice, and Francis Sharrock, aged 13. They had taken in
two boarders, including Albert Fanslau, 29 years old.

And here, at long last, is our family. Lee Sharrock was my grandfather.
David L. Sharrock and Etta Sharrock were my great-grandparents. Albert
Fanslau became Etta’s second husband.
