ANCESTRY OF LOUIS LEE SHARROCK

From the two censuses we see that Margarett was born between 1765 and 1770.
Thus it appears that when Lorina Brush was born, her mother Margarett Brush
was 31-36 years old, and her father Ard Brush was only 19. Some entries on
the Mormon website state that Ard Brush was born c. 1758 in Greenwich,
Fairfield, Connecticut, but the source material is not disclosed, and the
Barbour Collection, which does contain vital records from Greenwich for this
time period, does not bear this out.

According to the Barbour Collection, Benjamin Brush and Rebecca Finch were
married on 22 February 1775, by Rev. William Seward, in Stamford, Fairfield,
Connecticut. According to their gravestone inscriptions, Benjamin Brush was
born Feb. 10, 1752 and died Nov. 22, 1822; Rebecca Finch Brush was born Oct.
1752, and died May 15, 1826. They are buried at Brush Cemetery, Stamford,
Fairfield, Connecticut. (http://www.findagrave.com)

Etta Mae Adams’ mother, Francis E. “Fannie” Cramer, was the daughter of Capt.
Richard Cramer and Mary Ann Vansant. This is documented by the 1860 census
for Washington, Burlington, New Jersey, where Francis E. Crammer (age 13) is
listed with her father Richard Crammer, Ship Carpenter (age 43), her mother
Mary Ann Crammer (age 32), and six of her siblings. Richard Cramer and Mary
A. Cramer appear in the census records for Washington, Burlington, New Jersey
in 1870 with eight of their children (Francis E. “Fannie” Cramer was already
married, on 22 October 1867); and in 1880 with three of their children. Mary
A. Cramer appears in the census records for Washington, Burlington, New
Jersey as a widow in 1900, living next door to her son Nicholas Cramer and
his family; and in 1910, living with her son James V. Cramer, and next door
to her son Nicholas V. Cramer and his family. According to their gravestone
inscriptions, Richard Cramer died Nov. 18, 1896, aged 80 years; Mary Ann
Vansant, wife of Richard Cramer, died Dec. 28, 1913, aged 85 years. They are
buried at Lower Bank Cemetery, Burlington, New Jersey. (Photos of their
gravestones are posted online at http://www.findagrave.com)

Richard Cramer is said to have been the son of Jacob and Elizabeth Cramer,
but I have found no evidence of this, so we must consider his ancestry
unknown. Mary Ann Vansant is said to have been the daughter of Ard and
Margarett Brush, and the granddaughter of Rev. Nicholas Vansant and Mercy
Davis Moore. Census records, marriage records, and cemetery records can be
pieced together to prove this lineage, as shown below.

Mary Ann Vansant was the daughter of Rev. Nicholas Vansant (Van Zandt) and
Mercy Davis Moore. This is documented by the 1840 census for Galloway,
Atlantic, New Jersey, where Nicholas Vansant (age 50-59) is listed with a
wife (age 50-59) and eight children, including two daughters aged 10-14. The
same census lists as heads of households Joel, James, Charles, and Daniel
Vansant, but none had any daughters aged 10-14 in 1840. According to the
1900 census for Washington, Burlington, New Jersey, Mary A. Cramer (the
former Mary Ann Vansant) was born April 1828, consistent with her gravestone
inscription which states that she died Dec. 28, 1913, aged 85 years. She,
her husband, and both of her parents are buried at Lower Bank Cemetery,
Burlington, New Jersey. Nicholas Vansant and Mercy Davis Moore were married
23 Dec 1808 at Pleasant Mills, Atlantic, New Jersey. According to their
gravestone inscriptions, Nicholas Vansant was born 1 November 1788 and died
6 March 1879; Mercy Vansant died 8 Jan 1880, “In the 91st year of her age.”
Mercy Vansant’s maiden name is documented by the 1850 census for Washington,
Burlington, New Jersey, in which Nicholas Van Zandt, Ship Carpenter (age 61)
